I kept my viewer in mind by wanting to make them feel that the cover reveals clues about what happens in the story. I implemented foreshadowing, and many motifs found throughout the novel. Examples of these include the blood splatter on the head, the repeating quote, and the belly band that changes the composition of the cover and the phrase “fake somebody, real nobody”. The Indie film, Lost in Translation, acted as my inspiration for the magazine— it helped me strengthen my narrative of the three shoots by breaking them up into “morning”, “afternoon” and “night”. As my work on this project progressed, I wanted to find a balance of a daily, normal-looking elements, but pushing it so the looks were still out of the ordinary.&nbsp; Additionally, with the film taking place in Tokyo, I found that adding subtle references to Japanese culture helped enhance the story told through my images and layout. Choosing to work with only one model gave me the opportunity to really fine-tune his looks and devote all of my energy to his role. The moodboard is broken up into those three categories, and mimics the vibe of each shoot. The one that changed the most was the morning shoot. At first, I wanted it to feel chaotic, yet light and full of color. These include, the colored tape, the Japanese candies (on the back cover), and the time stamps on each of the different spreads. Drafting how I wanted to include these different elements made my approach more organized, and gave me a specific goal. I opted for Evian water. Traditionally, this brand has more of an innocent identity; it uses babies in their commercials and can be easily identified with its light pink and blue branding. I chose to ironically do the opposite by making a highly sexualized campaign for this product. Not only are the images suggestive, but the phrases are audaciously scandalous, yet still related to water.
